It depends on your level of fitness/stability on uneven surfaces. The beginning of the hike is a very easy to walk trail but there are rockier parts as you move along. The stairs are tougher to climb but there are handrails and you can take rests on the way. There were people half your ages having to rest along the trail!
We are visiting in Late August with a 18mth old and 11,and 8 year old boys. We feel the hike is not suitable for us, but would like to see this site. Is there any point to visiting if not doing the hike up. Is there nice park facilities or other nice areas of interest to spend time at here. Or do we give this area a miss? Thank you

There is some information under Diamond head park. Unfortunately, there aren't any activities at the base that I recall. A drive along the south side of the island is very scenic and will provide some great views. Not the same as going up Diamond Head. Enjoy your visit.
Has anyone done this with young children, aged 4. I don't think the walking is a problem for him but thinking about the safety issues. Thanks!

What is the best way to get from the Hilton Village to the beginning of the trail without a car? Don't mind a bit of a walk before the trail. Thanks
