I think he was a newspaper writer, but also a good local guy. CY beach is at the Northern end of Kamaole Beach I, and extension of Kam 1

There are several good units in Kihei. If you want really close to the water, and pay a lot more then stay on the water side of South Kihei Road....you don’t have to cross the busy at times street. Units on the east side of South Kihei could involve a bit of a hike as the condos stretch away from the weather. A nice one we a stayed at by Kamaole Beach III if Hale Kamaole ...nice big units, views, and a very nice BBQ area. By Kam II we use Kihei Akahi...upper floors have a view of sunset, nice gardens and well kept.
In December, what is the water like here? Turtles still around? Snorkeling good by rocky boundary? Can I rent kayak or sup right there without driving?

Yes, you can rent anything you can imagine within walking distance. Certainly water is fabulous. Can't imagine turtles wouldn't be there but not sure
