Sovereignty boasts a pedigree that includes three of the greatest thoroughbreds in history: Secretariat (Triple Crown champion in 1973), Seattle Slew (Triple Crown winner in 1977), and Affirmed (Triple Crown victor in 1978), per Courier Journal.

Sovereignty, who was trained by Bill Mott and ridden by Junior Alvarado, won the 2025 Kentucky Derby at Churchill Downs in Louisville, Kentucky.

Mott, who first won the Derby with long shot Country House under unusual circumstances via disqualification in 2019, had the best horse in the field on Saturday.
