The U.S. Supreme Court agreed on Monday to hear Enbridge's bid to change the venue of Michigan's lawsuit seeking to force the Canadian pipeline operator to stop operating a pipeline underneath the Straits of Mackinac,

Enbridge Inc.’s long-simmering dispute with the state of Michigan over an oil pipeline that runs under the Straits of Mackinac is headed for the U.S. Supreme Court after years of legal battles and the intervention of Canada’s government.

Last year, a court of appeals ruled that Enbridge’s request to move the case to federal court came too late in the process, a decision that the company disagrees with. The Supreme Court will hear arguments in the case sometime after their next term begins in October. A ruling could come any time after that, as late as June 2026.
