Matt Vandevander took cover in his bathtub when a tornado hit his home in Tennessee. Vandevander escaped the “crazy experience” with minor injuries. He spoke to NBC News' Steven Romo about surviving the storm.

Several states in the central U.S. were hit hard overnight by a deadly storm that reportedly caused flash flooding and even destructive tornadoes.

(Reuters) -Tornadoes ripped across a wide swath of the central and southern United States on Wednesday, destroying homes and businesses and bringing down power lines and trees. The National Weather Service said there had been at least 15 reports of tornadoes in at least four states by late Wednesday.

Some of Wednesday night’s storm damage in Brownsburg came from an EF2 tornado. That’s the preliminary determination from the National Weather Service, which sent survey teams to several Indiana locations to assess damage in the wake of Wednesday’s powerful storms NWS said the tornado hit just east of the Hendricks County community.

The National Weather Services confirms there is tornado damage in Brownsburg. A storm survey team began assessing damage around 8:30 Thursday morning. The team is continuing to evaluate the scope of the damage before determining the tornado's rating on the EF scale.
