The all-new, sixth-generation Toyota 4Runner is finally here, ending a 15-year reign in showrooms for the previous version of Toyota's rock-crawling mid-sized SUV. Toyota's new interpretation of the 4Runner is decidedly more modern than the truck it replaces, but the two share some key similarities and design elements.

For example, both the Land Cruiser and 4Runner have the same 112.2-inch wheelbase, the same eight-speed automatic transmission, and nearly identical width, with most trims measuring 77.9 inches across. They also share a 6,000-pound towing capacity when properly equipped.

We're hedging our bets here with the word "might" because our physical experience so far has been limited to having a good prod around under the hood and bodywork and wheel time on a private off-road course picked by Toyota.
