The voluntary recall over botulism fears covers cans sold at Safeway, Harris Teeter, Costco and other major grocery stores in dozens of states.

Cans of tuna sold by major grocery chains in 27 states have been recalled by the Tri-Union Seafoods company over concerns a manufacturing defect with their easy-pull tab lids could allow the clostridium botulinum toxin, which causes botulism, to contaminate the product.

Canned tuna products sold at Costco, Trader Joe’s, Walmart and other grocery stores have been recalled over a design concern that could potentially cause botulism. Anyone who consumed the tuna, the company wrote in its recall, should seek immediate medical attention.
