Berlin officials fought a fire at two-story home Friday that displaced a family and killed a pet, the Berlin Volunteer Fire Department said in a news release.

According to the Berlin Fire Chief, the family will be displaced, but the home is not a total loss. He said the family did lose a pet in the fire. The attack crew found heavy smoke conditions and an active fire on the first floor and basement levels, said the fire chief.
