As heavy snow, sleet and freezing rain hit parts of the Deep South, a blast of Arctic air plunged much of the Midwest and the eastern U.S. into a deep freeze.

A winter storm prompted a National Weather Service office in Louisiana to issue a first-ever blizzard warning. The storm is causing dangerous conditions from Texas to North Carolina.

The company says it has in total “nearly 3,000 people at 11 locations in Maine, Connecticut, California, Japan and China, and in remote locations around the world.”

Florida Atlantic University has named three finalists in its long-delayed search for a new leader. The Boca Raton university on Sunday night announced its presidential search committee had selected two veteran university administrators and a former state legislator for further interviews and campus visits.

After restarting a state-halted search, the school will select from Adam Hasner, a former House majority leader with FAU ties; Michael Hartline, business dean at FSU; and John Volin, provost at the University of Maine.

The state has been slow to adopt rules to protect Florida's endangered springs. While a boom in residential construction has increased the amount of groundwater being taken from the aquifers.
