Binghamton, N.Y. — The firefighter killed while battling a blaze Wednesday in Upstate New York’s Southern Tier has been identified. Binghamton Firefighter John “JR” Gaudet died in the line of duty while fighting a fire Wednesday night in downtown Binghamton, officials said. Two other firefighters were injured and treated at a local hospital.

BINGHAMTON, N.Y. (WBNG) -- According to the City of Binghamton, a Binghamton firefighter died while fighting the third alarm fire on Main Street in Binghamton Wednesday night. The firefighter transported to Wilson Hospital was pronounced dead. The city said two other firefighters were injured and are in stable condition at Wilson Hospital.

Binghamton Mayor Jared Kraham announced on his Facebook page that one firefighter was killed and two others injured while battling a fire in downtown Binghamton last night. According to posts from area departments, mayday calls were made reporting multiple firefighters were trapped.
