Facebook owner Meta Platforms plans to carry out its expected company-wide layoffs next week while pushing ahead with the expedited hiring of machine learning engineers, it told staffers in internal memos seen by Reuters on Friday.

Meta sent employees an internal memo on Friday outlining what to expect as the tech giant implements its latest round of layoffs affecting 5% of its 72,000-person workforce, around 3,000 employees. A memo obtained by Business Insider and posted to Meta's internal Workplace forum by Vice President of Human Resources Janelle Gale said that employees affected by the performance-based cuts will be notified Monday morning through an email sent to their work and personal email addresses.

Meta Platforms plans to lay off some five percent of its staff from February 11 to March 13. The cuts are expected to run across the company, targeting what Meta calls the "lowest performers."

Unlike previous company-wide layoffs, Meta plans to keep its offices open on Monday and will not provide further updates on the decisions, as mentioned by Gale in her post

Meta is laying off 3,000 employees on Monday as part of performance-based job cuts. Affected workers will receive emails and lose access to company systems.

Janelle Gale, Meta's Head of People, said notifications will be sent to employees losing their jobs from 5:00am local time on Monday in most countries, including the US. Notably, the layoff plan will not impact workers in Germany, France, Italy, and the Netherlands owing to local regulations.
