A glowing object lit up the sky, prompting dozens of calls to the authorities, as scientists scrambled to figure out what it was. It turns out that it was a meteor.

The American Meteor Society said it received more than 160 reports of a fireball sighting from observers in Georgia and South Carolina.

Residents in parts of South Carolina and Georgia reported seeing a fireball streak across the sky in broad daylight on Thursday. Nexstar’s WJBF received numerous calls and messages regarding the odd sighting.
