GABORONE, Jan. 5 (Xinhua) -- Botswana is planning to allow a 1.51 percent depreciation of its currency until December 2024 to counter inflation, the finance minister has announced.

In Botswana’s currency, Debswana’s rough diamond sales rose 48.3% to 56.544 billion pula, reflecting a stronger dollar in the period.

Botswana gets 30% of its revenue and 75% of its foreign currency earnings from diamonds and the current market downturn resulted in the economy contracting by 3% in 2024.
