The Dallas entrepreneur is teaming up with local groups to support victims and first responders after deadly Central Texas flooding.

They cited a Houston Chronicle investigation that found UGRA declined to fund the improvements despite having millions of dollars in reserves.

Lawmakers in Austin held the first of a series of hearings on Wednesday to prevent a disaster like the Hill Country flooding from happening again.

People across the state are still giving what they can to help the Hill Country after the deadly flood. That includes to the relief fund set up by the Community Foundation of the Texas Hill Country, which just marked a $60 million fundraising haul since the disaster.

The body of a woman who was missing in the devastating July 4 floods has been found, according to Gov. Greg Abbott. Abbott said Task Force 1 — one of the search teams deployed in response — recovered the body in the Kerrville area. He announced the discovery in a post on X at 10:10 p.m. Tuesday.

Search efforts in Kerr County have reduced the missing count to two after July Fourth floods, with one young girl and an adult man still unaccounted for.

Kelly said during the meeting that the commission approved a 20% budget increase two years ago to recruit and retain deputies using money from the general county fund. A year later when the county sheriff's office was granted $500,000 from SB22, the county judge said that money was supposed to be used to offset the cost of the budget increase.
